Jimbo Fisher is a former college football coach who had a prestigious career. The Texas A&M Aggies were his most recent team. However, during the 2023 season, the Aggies fired Fisher, a move that cost the program $76 million. Since then, he has been without a program. So, what is Fisher doing now?

What is Jimbo Fisher doing now?

After receiving a large severance payout from the Aggies, Fisher could retire comfortably. However, he currently works for the Ole Miss Rebels in a unique role. The team hired him as an "Offensive Guru and Head Schematic Mastermind."

This role is reportedly remote. The Ole Miss offense is led by quarterback Jaxson Dart, who, when asked about Fisher's new role by Fansided, said:

"I'm not sure what you're talking about."

Someone who does know about his designation is Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin. Kiffin told Fansided:

"[Jimbo] is the guy to bring this offense into the 21st century. [Fisher] doesn't even have to leave his ranch. He just has to get on a Zoom once a week and tell us which plays we should run. Last week, I'm pretty sure he was out on the lake during the whole call. I was having trouble hearing him."

Is Jimbo Fisher going to coach again?

While nothing suggests Fisher will immediately return to coaching, he is open to a return. Fisher told ESPN Radio earlier this week:

“I’m still young enough that, like I say, I’m gonna be ready to roll, probably here pretty soon."

Jimbo Fisher's record at Texas A&M by year

Fisher was hired by Texas A&M in 2018, and spent six seasons with the team. His season-by-season record is as follows:

  • 2018: 9-4 (5-3 conference play). Won the Gator Bowl against the NC State Wolfpack
  • 2019: 8-5 (4-4 conference play). Won the Texas Bowl against the Oklahoma State Cowboys
  • 2020: 9-1 (8-1 conference play). Won the Orange Bowl against the North Carolina Tar Heels
  • 2021: 8-4 (4-4 conference play). Qualified for the Gator Bowl but withdrew from Bowl game due to COVID.
  • 2022: 5-7 (2-6 conference play)
  • 2023: 6-4 (4-3 conference play). Fisher was fired during the season.
