College football fans weren't impressed with Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-2, 2-2 Big Ten Conference) quarterback Dylan Raiola, who drew comparisons with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes due to a similar pregame warmup routine.
Before the game against the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes (5-1, 2-1), Raiola's pregame warmup led to trolls mocking the freshman.
One fan reacted on X to the Cornhuskers quarterback, unimpressed with Raiola's pregame routine.
"What a loser," a fan wrote.
Here are other comments from fans reacting to Raiola copying Mahomes' pregame routine.
"Needs his own routine and quitting the styles of every one else's," a fan commented.
"It's weird. Be your own man," another fan said.
"This is so so so weird," a fan added.
"It'd be different if he'd actually play well. Now it's annoying," another critic responded.
"It was cool to post it the first time he did it, but we don't need to see this every week," a fan wrote, reacting to the post.
Raiola's last performance has brought more negative attention to Raiola's attempt to compare himself to Mahomes and his inability to perform like him.
Dylan Raiola's ongoing struggles entering Week 9 of college football season
In Week 1, Raiola caught fans' attention with his hairstyle and mannerisms, which resembled those of the Super Bowl quarterback. He also received praise from Mahomes in Nebraska's 40-7 blowout win against the UTEP Miners on August 31. Since then, Raiola's performances have fluctuated, with his last two games ending without a passing touchdown.
Nebraska is coming off a disappointing 56-7 loss to the Indiana Hoosiers (7-0, 4-0) in Week 8. Raiola couldn't showcase his quarterback ability as he did against the Miners, ending the game with three interceptions and no touchdowns. He also comes into Week 9 with 1,592 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Nebraska Cornhuskers hoping to rebound from Week 8 defeat
The Cornhuskers hope to win against the Buckeyes to get their season back on track. A win would give them their sixth of the season, getting them one step closer to competing in a bowl game. It would be the first season that Nebraska has won six games or more since 2016.
That said, the Buckeyes are a tough matchup to rebound from a loss. Ohio State was favored to win before the kickoff. A loss would set the Cornhuskers back and continue the conversation that Raiola isn't ready to be compared to Mahomes.
Nebraska's schedule for the 2024 season
Nebraska has only four more games left for the season after Week 9. A sixth win may get tougher with a loss against Ohio State with upcoming matchups like the Iowa Hawkeyes later this year. Regardless, the Cornhuskers will aim to end their season strong.
Here is the rest of the Nebraska Cornhuskers schedule after Week 9:
- Nov. 2: vs. UCLA
- Nov. 9: Open Week
- Nov. 16: @USC
- Nov. 23: vs. Wisconsin
- Nov 30: @ Iowa
