After every week in the college football season, the Associated Press releases the AP poll. It is the official ranking of the top 25 college football teams, based on ballots from official voters.
Since there are lots of voters that the Associated Press needs to receive the response from, the exact timing of the poll's release varies from week to week. However, it is always released early on Sunday afternoon.
What time does the Week 5 AP poll come out?
The Associated Press typically releases the AP poll around 2 p.m. ET on Sunday every week. There is no indication that this should change this week.
Depending on how early voters get their ballots in, the AP poll release can be up to 30 minutes early or late.
Week 5 AP poll prediction
Looking at the games from Week 5, there will be some movement in the latest poll. While nothing is guaranteed, there are some teams that could rise or fall based on their performances in Week 5.
Which teams are projected to rise in Week 5's AP poll?
These teams should rise this week, based on their performances.
Tennessee
The Tennessee Volunteers have a good chance to rise this week after their win over the number 15-ranked Oklahoma Sooners. The Volunteers got one of the highest-ranked wins this week, and with a few teams in the top five on open weeks, there is a good chance Tennessee enters the top 5.
Miami
Miami has risen in the rankings every week this season, and it will likely continue this week too. The Hurricanes were ranked eighth last week, and with another dominant win this week, Miami will likely continue its upward trajectory.
Michigan
Number 18 Michigan picked up a big 27-24 win this week over number 11-ranked USC. Getting a win over a higher-ranked team is bound to result in moving up the rankings. The only question is how high they will rise.
What surprises should we expect in this week's AP poll?
These teams could surprisingly fall after their Week 5 performances.
Missouri
Missouri was ranked seventh coming into this week and picked up a 30-27 win over Vanderbilt. Teams ranked in the top 5 need more than small wins over unranked teams to keep their position. With the team behind them, Miami, having another dominant performance, the Tigers could fall a few spots.
USC
Although it was a close game with Michigan, losing to a team seven spots lower than them will likely drop the Trojans a few spots. However, since it was a close game, voters probably will not punish them too much.
Oklahoma State
Number 14-ranked Oklahoma State lost 22-19 to number 12-ranked Utah this week. On paper, that should not drop them much, but the way the game played out means they likely will.
The Cowboys only scored three points in the first three quarters, so voters might punish them for being unable to generate offense until the game was nearly out of reach.
