Donovan Edwards received a message from his former teammate Blake Corum after he was featured on the cover of EA Sports College Football 25. Edwards and Corum formed a one-two punch in the backfield for Michigan last season as the Wolverines won the national championship.
Since then, Corum has been drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL, which leaves Edwards as Michigan's starting running back.
Although they aren't teammates anymore, the two are close friends, and Corum gave Edwards a nice message after he was on the cover of EA Sports College Football 25.
"One of the guys, Ty, from EA, said, ‘Keep it a secret,' I said, ‘Ty, look, man, I ain't gonna lie to you, I probably told my well-known friends, trusted agent,' that's a Jim Harbaugh saying right there," Edwards told 247Sports on Thursday. "So I call Blake [Corum] when I got the call, and I was like, ‘Man, this is just crazy because ...'
"I always think that I can do better, I'm very hard on myself, right, and I told him, ‘I don't even deserve to be on here,' like I didn't even have a great season to even be on the cover of the game.
"Basically, what he told me was that I deserve it. I've been through a lot. Grow mentally, emotionally and spiritually, that God has blessed me and I deserve to be on it. And he told me that there's no doubt that I'm gonna have a big season this upcoming year."
It was a nice message from Corum to Edwards, as the running back is expected to be one of the top players in his position in the country this season. Edwards was also a key member of the Wolverines national championship-winning team last season.
Donovan Edwards will be Wolverines' starting running back in 2024
After Blake Corum was drafted into the NFL, it set up Donovan Edwards to be the Michigan Wolverines starting running back in 2024.
Last season, Edwards rushed for 497 yards on 119 carries and five touchdowns. In the year prior, he had 991 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 140 carries.
Donovan Edwards is entering his fourth year at Michigan and is expected to be a middle-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
The Wolverines will open their college football season on Aug. 31 against Fresno State. Michigan has notable games against Texas, Washington, Ohio State, USC and Oregon.
