The College Football AP Poll is one of the most intriguing non-game portions of the sport, as it tells us where the selection committee believes each team should be ranked. The College Football AP Poll is voted on by a group of college football writers, and the teams are ranked by where they end up when putting all of the voters' decisions together.
This College Football AP Poll will be unveiling its preseason poll on Monday, Aug. 12, and will also be released every Sunday during the regular season around noon ET. The rankings will be a major factor as they tell us which teams are in consideration for the College Football Playoff and the points determine how close the voters think these teams are.
Let's take a deeper dive into the College Football AP Poll and discuss where things could wind up heading into the season.
Which team will be the preseason top-ranked College Football AP Poll team?
While the College Football AP Poll for the 2024 preseason comes out on Monday, the Coaches Poll was unveiled last week and saw the Georgia Bulldogs as the top-ranked team. This is not coming as too much of a surprise, given the amount of talent returning to the program and having another season of coach Kirby Smart heading the team.
Below are the top 10 of the 2024 Coaches Poll to give an idea of which teams should be dominant this season:
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Oregon Ducks
- Texas Longhorns
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Ole Miss Rebels
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
- Michigan Wolverines
- Penn State Nittany Lions
- Florida State Seminoles
What is arguably more important than the rankings are the teams that received first-place votes. Fifty-four voters assembled this ranking, and Georgia received 46 first-place votes, while Ohio State had seven and Texas received one vote as well.
While it is difficult to argue against the Bulldogs here, the Ohio State Buckeyes looked to improve at the quarterback position. The Texas Longhorns are going to be tougher to put there right away as they just lost running back CJ Baxter for the season and have a lot of changes offensively with players being drafted.
It will be interesting to see how the voters decide the preseason College Football AP Poll, but expect to see the Georgia Bulldogs taking the top spot by a sizable margin.
