Colorado's Shedeur Sanders opened up today on his team's performance during the recent Alamo Bowl in which they fell 36-14 to the BYU Cougars. On Thursday's episode of his 2Legendary With Shedeur Sanders podcast, the quarterback revealed he had a bad cut on his knee that hadn't fully healed yet.
Near the start of the show, co-host Darius Sanders asked him about the injury to which the Colorado star answered:
"I just got a bad cut on my knee right now, just to the white meat. ... I put nothing on it and it still hurts. When I put on pants, it be leaking. I don't know bro, it's a cut bro. It hurts in the worst place possible" (2:30)
While he spoke about his injury, Sanders seemed reluctant to speak in detail about the defeat at the Alamo Bowl or about his memories as a Colorado Buffalo. He stated that he wasn't ready to speak about the game or the good memories, due to how things played out in the clash against the Cougars.
Shedeur Sanders's initial reaction to losing the Alamo Bowl against BYU
Right after the game last week, Shedeur Sanders did give some reasoning as to why the Colorado Buffaloes were unable to get their first postseason victory since 2004. While the statement didn't explore the reasons that led to Colorado's defeat in depth, Sanders did admit that the blame was mainly on the way the players played.
“We started to identify and we started with the rhythm of things," Sanders said. "We just wasn’t connecting overall, that’s what stopped us overall, was ourselves.”
While the phrase might seem dismissive of the Cougars' outstanding efforts, it does show some ownership on his part. Sanders's performance during the game was not of the quality that fans have come to expect from him. He recorded 208 passing yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. ESPN set his total quarterback rating (QBR) for the game at a lowly 18.6.
