Deion Sanders is known for his straightforward approach to life and coaching. The NFL legend who famously never allows himself to have a bad day, has been crucial in Colorado Buffaloes' successful 2024 season. He took an actively losing team to one of the most improved teams in college football.
The game started strong with Travis Hunter making a beautiful play to get his fourth interception of the season. This set the tone for the Buffs to secure an early lead. By the end of the first quarter Colorado led the game 21-0. However, the second quarter was less thrilling as both sides failed to score any points. By halftime, the score remained the same.
Sanders was not pleased with the performance in the second quarter, as he believed they got complacent. During the halftime break, he did not mince words while giving a fiery speech.
“Ya’ll got a little playful feel to you," Sanders said. "You’re feeling like you’ve already gotten this thing in the bag right now, like you’re on cruise control right now. That’s why we haven’t scored no more points, because you don’t wanna dominate.
"You just want to win. There is a difference, when you dominate more guys go to the NFL. When you win, it don’t work like that. It gets fun when we start going off. By third or fourth quarter, that’s when it gets fun. But you got to be consistent.”
Coach Prime’s halftime speech captures the relentless pursuit of excellence, dedication to one’s purpose, firm self-belief and a burning desire for victory. The Buffs would dominantly win the game (52-0) over Oklahoma State.
Deion Sanders shows love for Jimmy Horn Jr. with touching senior day gesture
The Colorado Buffaloes clash with the Oklahoma Cowboys was special for many reasons. It happened to be their Senior Day and Deion Sanders could be seen joyfully walking his sons Shedeur and Shilo across the field.
Sanders took time to make sure one of his players didn’t feel left out during the ceremony. Senior wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr.’s father is in prison and was therefore unable to attend the event and walk out with his son. Coach Prime went straight to the rescue and made sure Jimmy could embrace the special moment.
“Jimmy is like my kid, I love him that much," Coach Prime told reporters. "We’ve talked about some personal things throughout his couple seasons here … But he just turned around and asked me … And I said, ‘You don’t have to ask me twice. I got you.’”
This is what makes Deion Sanders as a coach so special. He treats every player as his own kid and helps them pursue their dreams.
