Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders has revamped his coaching staff after last season's 4-8 campaign. He brought in the likes of Pat Shurmur, Robert Livingston and Warren Sapp to bolster the overall NFL experience of his staff.

Now, Coach Prime has reportedly further bolstered his coaching staff by bringing in another member on the defensive side of the ball. According to The Athletic's Bruce Feldman, Sanders has roped in George Helow to his coaching staff.

Who is Deion Sanders' new staff member George Helow?

With just two weeks left before Colorado's Big 12 reunion campaign, George Helow is expected to take over as the new senior defensive coach for the Buffaloes.

George Helow has spent time coaching various schools in college football including in the SEC and Big Ten. Most recently, he served as the Michigan Wolverines' linebackers coach for two seasons (2021-22) under ex-coach Jim Harbaugh.

He and the Wolverines parted ways after the 2022 season after Harbaugh brought Chris Patridge as the team's new linebackers coach. Helow is now expected to work with Colorado's defensive coordinator Robert Livingston to bolster Colorado's defense ahead of the program's Big 12 debut.

George Helow also worked with former Alabama HC Nick Saban

After parting ways with Michigan in Ann Arbor, Helow got the opportunity to work with seven-time national champ Nick Saban last season. He served as a special assistant for the Alabama Crimson Tide during the 2023-24 season before their CFP showdown with Michigan.

This led to several Michigan fans criticizing the move, thinking that it would give Saban and his team an unfair advantage in their playoff semifinal game. However, that was not the case, as the Wolverines triumphed over Alabama to enter the national championship game and eventually take home the crown.

Furthermore, this is not George Helow's first time working in the Colorado vicinity. Before joining Coach Prime's team, he was a part of the Colorado State Rams from 2016 to 2019. He began as a defensive graduate assistant for the Rams in 2016 before being promoted to defensive quality control coach in 2017 and safeties coach in 2018.

It will be interesting to see how the addition of George Helow helps Deion Sanders and the Buffs next season.
