The 2024 college football season has been a thrilling one, and ESPN's "College GameDay" has been at the forefront of previewing some of the biggest upsets of the season. The beloved pregame show has seen a boost in its ratings this season, according to ESPN.
There have been some notable guest pickers on the show, including retired Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban's wife, Terry Saban, who was eerily accurate with most of her picks, even beating her famous husband.
In Week 8 of college football action, "College GameDay" will be in Texas for the huge clash between the No. 1 Longhorns and coach Kirby Smart's No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs.
During Thursday's episode of the "Pat McAfee Show," "GameDay" host Kirk Herbstreit revealed that golfer Scottie Scheffler, who built his professional career in Texas, would be the guest picker.
"Who do we have this week? A golfer, right? I think it's Scottie Scheffler," Herbstreit said.
Scottie Scheffler has many ties to the University of Texas, where he played from 2014, winning the Phil Mickelson Freshman of the Year and the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year in 2015. He is currently ranked No. 1 in the official world golf rankings and is one of the most prestigious guest pickers on "College GameDay" this season.
Week 8 "College GameDay" could be the biggest of the season
The Texas Longhorns and the Georgia Bulldogs are not natural rivals, with the former only arriving in the Southeastern Conference from the Big 12 this season. The matchup will be the first one as conference opponents, with the teams only meeting five teams previously. The last clash came in 2018 when the mascots Uga and Bevo famously clashed before the game.
The Longhorns hold the advantage 4-1, winning the 2018 game 28-21 in the Sugar Bowl.
The Week 8 appearance is the first time "College GameDay" has been back in Texas since 2022 when the Longhorns hosted the TCU Horned Frogs. It is the 10th time overall that the show has been at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, and it denotes the magnitude of the clash that the show ignored the huge game pitting the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide against the No. 10 Tennessee Volunteers.
Saturday's clash between the Longhorns and the Bulldogs will likely have a season record for viewers, and "College GameDay" has chosen one of the most illustrious figures, Scottie Scheffler, as the guest picker to headline the event.
