The future of Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is unknown. Ewers is preparing to lead UT against the Arizona State Sun Devils in the second round of the College Football Playoff on Wednesday. But when the playoff run ends, whenever that may be, Ewers will need to make a decision about his next step.

He has one year of eligibility left, and On3 Sports reported that Ewers has been offered $6 million to not enter the 2025 NFL draft (which is still a possibility) but instead enter the transfer portal.

Here is how college football fans responded to this news on social media.

These fans can't understand why someone would be offering that much money for Quinn Ewers.

"Who is paying this much for mid😭😭😭," a fan posted.
"Who is offering him $6 million? WHO," another wrote.
Who TF offering this bum that lol?!" a third commented.

These fans think that if Ewers enters the transfer portal, he will end up with the Oregon Ducks.

"Oregon has found their guy!!" a fan posted.
"Oregon gonna try to get him so they don’t have to develop a QB, again," another commented.

These fans think that this will only serve as a distraction for Ewers on the eve of the Arizona State game.

"Imagine prepping for the biggest game of your life with this level of noise going on around you," a fan remarked.
"He’s not locked in, ASU ML," another tweeted.

The Quinn Ewers situation

Quinn Ewers has been the Longhorns' starting quarterback since the 2022 season. In that time, the Texas program returned to the national spotlight, winning the Big 12 in its final season last year and making the CFP for the first time.

2024 was a strong year for fourth-ranked Texas (12-2, No. 5 seed in the CFP) as Ewers is leading a team that is one of the favorites to win the national championship.

However, despite being the starting quarterback for most of the year, Ewers has not been able to fully take advantage. Instead, this year has been the year that Arch Manning has entered the spotlight.

Manning took over from Ewers during a brief period when he was injured, and since then, many fans have wanted to see more of Manning. This has been paired with Ewers struggling at times.

Going into next season, it's likely that Manning will be the starting quarterback for the Longhorns. This gives Ewers two choices. He can either declare for the NFL draft, joining a weak quarterback class but at a time when not many teams are looking for their next franchise quarterback. The other option is to transfer for his senior year, as he may no longer be needed with the Longhorns.

However, that is a decision for later. Right now, Ewers is focused on bringing a national championship back to Austin. His performances in their playoff games could have a direct input on what he intends to do.
