Wisconsin Badgers coach Luke Fickell has made the decision that transfer senior Tyler Van Dyke will be the program's starting quarterback for the 2024 college football season. Van Dyke was part of the Miami Hurricanes since the 2020 season and was the starting quarterback for the Hurricanes in the last three years.
Wisconsin offensive coordinator Phil Longo discussed the decision on Wednesday and how this was a bit of a close battle between Van Dyke and Braedyn Locke:
"As Fick says, we kind of see it as a 1A and a 1B type of situation right now as opposed to a 1 and a 2. That's how well Braedyn has done here in camp. But as of right now, Tyler Van Dyke is our starter." h/t ESPN
Looking at how he played last year, Tyler Van Dyke went 219 of 333 (65.8%) for 2,703 yards with 19 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. He was competing with Braedyn Locke, who started three games for the team after replacing injured Tanner Mordecai.
There are a lot of interesting things to dive into regarding the newest starting quarterback for the Wisconsin Badgers so let's take a look at it.
What should we expect from Tyler Van Dyke this season?
Tyler Van Dyke is a 6-foot-4 senior quarterback who is ready to take his game to the next level and hoping to do so with the Wisconsin Badgers. He was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year in 2021 but has been unable to reach those heights again due to inconsistent play as well as injuries plaguing him the previous two seasons.
This Wisconsin Badgers program is going to be dealing with a tough schedule as they have five games against teams that are in the preseason AP Top 25, including three in the top eight.
With the receiving trio of Bryson Green, C.J. Williams and Will Pauling returning to the Badgers as well, this is going to be a chance for Tyler Van Dyke to show exactly what he is built for and have teammates who are familiar with the system being run in Wisconsin.
