Ohio State Buckeyes defensive end Caden Curry was ejected from the game against the Marshall Thundering Herd on Saturday. The ejection occurred just before halftime.
Why was Caden Curry ejected against Marshall football?
Caden Curry was ejected due to a targeting call against him.
On the play in question, Marshall quarterback Earl Stone found Elijah Metcalf for a 10-yard pass. However, Curry went off the line of scrimmage and attempted to break up the pass and his head connected with the QB's helmet after the throw. This led to a targeting penalty on the play. After a review, the ruling was upheld.
Curry missed the rest of the game but he is unlikely to face any disciplinary action as the incident occurred in the first half.
What happened after Caden Curry's ejection?
Ohio State lost on two consecutive plays. After losing Caden Curry, the Buckeyes conceded on the next play as Stone found Metcalf for a 13-yard touchdown pass.
The play was reviewed, but it stood. At halftime, the Buckeyes had a 28-14 lead.
The absence of Caden Curry did not slow down the Buckeyes' defense in the second half, as they further increased their lead.
Caden Curry's form
In Curry's three years with the Buckeyes, he has made tackles consistently when he played as he has recorded 17 along with two sacks. In two games this season, he has one tackle and one forced fumble.
While he has been able to make some plays in his time with Ohio State, Curry has struggled to consistently make the Buckeyes’ starting lineup. This is because of the sheer strength of the Ohio State defense, and he may not be a starter each week.
His appearance in the Marshall game was because of an injury to starting defensive tackle Tyleik Williams. But due to his ejection, it did not last long, and it could be some time before Caden Curry will have the same opportunity again.
His absence had little impact on the rest of the game, as the Buckeyes were able to adapt their defense without Curry. Ohio State did not concede any points in the second half and won 49-14.
