ESPN College GameDay made its way to Berkley for the first time in the show's history. GameDay will be present for the ACC showdown between the California Golden Bears and the undefeated Miami Hurricanes.
Whenever College GameDay makes its way to a University's campus, things tend to get interesting and chaotic. And it certainly did get interesting at Berkeley when GameDay crew member Rece Davis had to change his outfit. But what was the reason behind this decision?
Why did Rece Davis change his outfit during ESPN's College GameDay show?
California fans were not happy with the fact that Rece Davis was wearing a crimson tie along with his suit. The color reminded the fans of their rivals, the Stanford Cardinal. That is when Cal fans started to reprimand Davis for the tie.
In the end, the College GameDay announcer took off the crimson tie and threw it into the crowd. This led the fans to burst into a roar of applause and cheered on Rece Davis for his outfit change. You can watch the video down below.
That was not the only highlight of the show. Steve Coughlin tried to take a dig at Cal fans by questioning how many of them are studying here because they couldn't get into Stanford.
"I'm biased when it comes to Cal faithful because whenever I played in that stadium, it was sold out. They do a great job. I also wonder how many of them are here because they didn't get into Stanford?"
Nick Saban took the side of the fans by coming up with a witty rebuttal for Coughlin. He questioned him that if Stanford was so great, why was his girlfriend studying here at the University of California back then?
"I got a question for you. If it was so great at Stanford, why did you have a girlfriend here at Cal?"
Nick Saban also took off his red tie during the College GameDay show
Rece Davis was not the only one who had to go through a tie-swap during the GameDay show in Berkeley. The Cal fans wanted Nick Saban to also take off his red tie which he was wearing.
The former Alabama head coach did not waste time in giving the Cal fans what they wanted. Saban started taking off his tie amid the fans cheering him on. Pat McAfee then put on a striped blue and gold tie on him while the fans cheered him on with a 'Saban' chant along with McAfee.
ESPN College GameDay always manages to build up a great atmosphere before a game. Now it will be interesting to see if the Golden Bears can go on to break Miami's undefeated streak at their home ground.
