Travis Hunter is expected to play a big role for Colorado in the upcoming season. After one season at Jackson State, the two-way star joined the Buffaloes in 2023.
However, many were puzzled by Hunter's transfer to Colorado, especially since he backed off his longtime commitment to Florida State when he joined Jackson State.
Travis Hunter outlines reason behind exit from Jackson State
Travis Hunter left Jackson State and transferred to Colorado to continue working with coach Deion Sanders. The wideout announced his decision to join the Buffaloes only a few days after Colorado appointed Sanders as its coach.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Hunter said:
"I committed to Coach Prime at Jackson State when he was there and I want to honor my commitment and stay with him. I felt like I learned a lot with him at Jackson State so I'm going to stick with him so I can continue to grind, continue to show love, continue to put the work in so I can get to the next level."
Hunter, the No. 1 recruit in the 2022 class, flipped FSU to join Jackson State after high school due to Sanders. Then, he followed Sanders to Buffalo to remain under "Coach Prime's" tutelage.
During his lone season at Jackson State, Hunter posted 188 yards and four touchdowns on 18 receptions as a wideout. He also recorded 19 tackles, two interceptions, eight passes defended, one forced fumble and one touchdown interception as a cornerback.
Last season, Hunter caught for 721 yards and five touchdowns on 57 receptions as a receiver for Colorado. He also recorded 30 tackles, five pass breakups and three interceptions as the Buffaloes finished with a 4-8 record.
Now a junior, Jackson will enter his third collegiate season in 2024. It will be interesting to see whether the player will declare for the 2025 NFL draft or continue to play under Sanders in his senior year.
