The Georgia Bulldogs are facing off against the Clemson Tigers on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium — but there was some unexpected news. Running back Trevor Etienne will not take the field according to multiple reports. The game, which kicked off at noon is live on ABC.
Georgia has already had a rocky start to the season with the recent dismissal of wide receiver Rara Thomas and safety David Daniel-Sisavanh. Now the team needs to manage without Etienne, who transferred from Florida.
Etienne’s suspension was due to a reported spring arrest for DUI and reckless driving. He was placed on 12 months of probation, fined and required to complete community service and a substance abuse program.
Despite Etienne being suspended for Saturday's game, he still showed up in full gear for warmups.
Coach Kirby Smart has been tight-lipped about the situation, only mentioning earlier this summer that some players would face suspensions.
"I don't really talk about all the other stuff, with regards to suspensions, for any of our players," Smart said.
Without Etienne, the Bulldogs will lean on sophomore Branson Robinson, freshman Nate Frazier and walk-on Cash Jones to carry the load against Clemson. Etienne had a solid season with the Florida Gators last year rushing for 753 yards and scoring eight touchdowns.
His absence will be felt but Georgia is still aiming to defend their No. 1 ranking and push towards another CFP National Championship.
