Utah Utes quarterback Cameron Rising will be in Las Vegas for the Big 12 media days this week. Rising will be one of four players Utah is sending to the Big 12 media day on Tuesday and Wednesday at Allegiant Stadium.
The conference media day is a time for networks to film interviews for broadcasts as well as help write preview stories for articles. Most teams send their coach, their quarterback, and then another couple of key players.
Utah announced the four players who will be attending along with coach Kyle Whittingham, and Cameron Rising is one of the players going.
Rising missed all of last year due to a torn ACL, but entering the 2024 season, there is a lot of hype around Utah and Rising.
“We’re elated to have him back,” Whittingham said regarding Rising’s return, via SI. “He’s a tremendous leader, tremendous player, and a legitimate Heisman candidate, in our opinion. Having him back is huge for our football team. He’s doing very well; everything is as it should be… we expect him to participate fully in spring ball.”
Rising is entering his seventh college season as he used a medical exemption to return in 2024 after missing all of 2023. In 2022, Rising went 249 for 385 for 3,034 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Who else is representing the Utah Utes at the Big 12 media days other than Cameron Rising?
Along with Cameron Rising, coach Kyle Whittingham, tight end Brant Kuithe, linebacker Karene Reid and defensive tackle Junior Tafuna will be present in front of the media.
Whittingham has been the Utes coach full-time since 2005, the only head coaching job he's held. He is 162-79 all-time as head coach and helped the Utes win the Pac-12 in 2021 and 2022.
Meanwhile, Brant Kuithe is entering his seventh year at Utah but missed all of last season due to an injury. The star tight end recorded 19 receptions for 206 yards and three touchdowns.
Karene Reid is set for his fourth year at Utah, and last season, the linebacker recorded 67 tackles, four pass defenses and one interception.
Finally, Junior Tafuna recorded 17 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble last year, which was his third season in Utah.
