On Friday night, Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers and his team were defeated 28-14 by the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl Classic. The loss removed them from the College Football Playoff, advancing the Buckeyes to the national title game.
Following the game, former NFL players Shannon Sharpe and Chad 'Ocho' Johnson aired an episode of their podcast, "Nightcap." During the session, the two discussed the game in depth, including the performance of numerous players.
Sharpe was highly critical of Ewers. He thinks all alumni of the University of Texas would be happy to pay to get him off the team for next season.
"But bro, Quinn Ewers. And I tweeted, I think all U of T alum will personally pay for any modes of transportation to get Quinn Ewers out of Austin," Sharpe said (starts at 6:50). "Whatever you want, Uber, you want Lyft, you want a train, you want a taxi, you want a plane. They will gladly pay to get him up out of Austin."
Quinn Ewers has two options for next season
With the Texas Longhorns season over, Quinn Ewers probably played his last game for the program. Although he has one year left of NCAA eligibility, a return to the Longhorns next season seems highly unlikely.
Texas has made it clear throughout the season that Arch Manning will succeed Ewers as the starting quarterback next year.
As a result, if Ewers wants to return to college, he will need to transfer. Returning to college is not something many people would have expected for Ewers at the start of the season. However, injuries derailed his season and caused his NFL draft stock to plummet.
Although some scouts still believe he is a top-100 pick, he is no longer viewed as a first-round pick in this draft. As a result, Ewers could return for another college season and transfer to another school to prove himself as a first-round talent.
Ewers' other option is to declare for the 2025 NFL draft. That appears to be the more likely option but he has not decided yet.
