Pat McAfee used an unusual saying that got a chuckle out of Nick Saban. McAfee let out the unique phrase Saban while discussing Alabama starting quarterback Jalen Milroe.

On the Friday edition of “The Pat McAfee Show,” Saban emphasized why Jalen Milroe has to encourage his teammates to play well. As the Crimson Tide’s quarterback, this pretty much makes the job easier for him to succeed under new coach Kalen DeBoer.

That led to McAfee summing up Saban's point in a way the former Bama head coach found fairly amusing.

Saban: "It's the hardest position in any sport, probably, to play if people around you don't play well. So, not taking responsibility in leadership, to encourage the guys around you to play well, is almost like crazy."
McAfee: “It’s almost like wiping before you poop.”
Saban: “I’ve never heard that one before.”

The conversation resulted in both Nick Saban and Pat McAfee chuckling before proceeding with the discussion on the show.

Kalen DeBoer explains what has changed for Jalen Milroe since last season's game against USF

Jalen Milroe was benched last season in the game against South Florida following his disappointing performance in the loss to Texas. However, that marked a turning point for him as he regained the starting role in the next game and led Alabama to 10 straight wins.

In his press conference session ahead of the Week 2 game against the USF Bulls, Kalen DeBoer discussed how much Milroe has improved from the last game against this weekend’s opponent.

“I thought being decisive at the end of the season was something that I was really wanting to make sure he carried over -- just playing ball, and finding ways to move the chains,” DeBoer said per Alabama Crimson Tide on SI.
"You get so caught up in this play, you're supposed to read it right to left -- or you're supposed to read the safety. There's so many things with checks. Then there's a point where you just got to go play ball."

Jalen Milroe maintains a similar mindset in 2024

Following his success in the 2023 college football season, Jalen Milroe has earned a lot of respect in the landscape. Now considered one of the nation's best, he was questioned on how he will be approaching the season during the SEC media days.

“I think it's the same,” when asked whether his mindset has changed after 2023 success. “Being the best version of myself, being the best quarterback in the country, learning, growing as a player, seeking all information from my coaching staff, being a student of the game,” Milroe said per Alabama Crimson Tide on SI.

The quarterback will undoubtedly be crucial to Alabama's success this season. Nonetheless, those around him have to be on their feet for things to work and he will be encouraging them to do so.
