Wisconsin entered the game coming off a 52-6 win over Purdue. The win ended a two-game losing streak by the Badgers after dropping previous matchups against USC and Alabama. This is only Wisconsin's second road game of the season, having lost its first road game 38-21 to USC.
Rutgers entered the game looking to bounce back after losing its first game of the season the previous week 14-7 to Nebraska. Before the loss, the Scarlet Knights had gotten off to a great start to the season, winning their first four games. Heading into the game, Rutgers was a -122 favorite according to DraftKings, and Wisconsin was a +102 underdog.

Despite being the underdog heading into its game against Rutgers, the Wisconsin Badgers put on a dominant performance in a win. The Badgers started the game by limiting the Scarlet Knights to only five plays on their first drive.
The Badgers drove the ball 89 yards to score on their first drive. The most impressive play came when quarterback Braedyn Locke made a 34-yard pass to Vinny Anthony II.
Although Braedyn Locke threw an interception to Shaquan Loyal on the second drive of the game, it did not generate any offense for Rutgers. The next drive ended in three plays before the Scarlett Knights needed to punt the ball.
When the Badgers got the ball back, they scored on that drive, bringing the lead to 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Wisconsin did not have as much success in the second quarter, missing a field goal and scoring no points.
Rutgers struggled mightily in the first half, having three-and-out drives four times in a row, starting with its second drive of the game. The Scarlet Knights did get into field goal range twice but missed both kicks.
Wisconsin brought the lead to 28-0 by the end of the third quarter. Scoring on the second drive of the half and then capitalizing on an interception.
Rutgers finally got on the board at the start of the fourth quarter, scoring a touchdown. However, the Badgers answered with two TDs and won 42-7.
