Deion Sanders is enjoying quite the success with the Colorado Buffaloes this season in the Big 12. After last year's 4-8 debut, the Buffs are now 8-2 and a serious contender for the conference title and a spot in the new 12-team playoffs.
Apart from these on-field achievements, "Coach Prime" has added another feather to his cap in terms of recruitment. After a long journey, Colorado has managed to land the commitment of five-star QB prospect Julian 'JuJu' Lewis. And one person in Boulder who is excited about this commitment is superfan Peggy Coppom.
In a video shared on social media, fans can see Peggy sharing a heartwarming message for Lewis after his commitment. She talked about how it was a great gift on her 100th birthday and that she was looking forward to his future with the Buffaloes.
"Hi Juju, this is Peggy in Boulder, Coloardo. I've just heard that you've committed to play football for the University of Colorado and become a Buffalo. I am so excited for that good news and its' a wonderful 100th birthday gift to me," Coppom said.
"I celebrated that birthday this week and what a gift you've given to me and to all of Colorado for you to be here and play football for us. Thank you so much for that and God bless you JuJu. Go Buffs!," she added.
Julian 'JuJu' Lewis initially committed to the USC Trojans in August last year. However, on Nov. 17, he decided to de-commit from Lincoln Riley's program after they successfully flipped the commitment of five-star QB Husan Longstreet from Texas A&M.
The Trojans are not having a great season in their debut Big Ten campaign. They are 5-5 (3-5 Big Ten Conference) and are on the brink of not qualifying for the Bowl games. This underwhelming performance must have influenced Lewis' decision to de-commit from the program.
Julian 'JuJu' Lewis excited for his journey with Colorado
The five-star QB from Carrolton, Georgia made his announcement on ESPN's "Pat McAfee Show" on Thursday. Lewis talked about how he was excited to be working under Deion Sanders and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to get to work and compete. Colorado wasn't recruiting me until I reclassed, so it really was perfect timing. This is only the beginning. I trust Coach Prime and Shurmur to help me become the player I want to be," Lewis said via ESPN.com.
Apart from the Buffs, the five-star quarterback also had offers from teams like Auburn, Indiana and the Georgia Bulldogs. However, in the end, he felt that playing under the guidance of "Coach Prime" would prove to be the most beneficial for his future.
Lewis' move to the Buffaloes has been speculative since his official visit back in June. With Coach Prime now securing the five-star prospect, he becomes his highest-ranked flipped commitment since Travis Hunter left Florida State to play for him in Jackson State back in 2022.
