Coach Prime hilariously trolled former NFL wideout Chad Johnson for announcing his desire to return to the Cincinnati Bengals, on their coaching staff this time around. The Colorado coach expressed his urge to hire Johnson to his Buffs staff, before aiming a cheeky dig at the six-time Pro Bowler.
"See I was gonna hire u but u coaching for them streets!" Sanders tweeted in response to Johnson's plea to join the Bengals' coaching staff.
Johnson, currently working as an analyst on the weekly highlight show Inside the NFL, has often said that he plans to venture into coaching.
In July 2016, Johnson briefly worked as a guest instructor for the Cleveland Browns. However, he has never had a notable major coaching job yet and it remains to be seen whether that could change this year.
During his 11-year playing career, Johnson spent 10 seasons with the Bengals and one final season with the New England Patriots in 2011. The wideout finished his pro career with 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns on 766 receptions. He posted 1,000+ receiving yards in a season with Cincinnati on six different occasions.
Coach Prime plans to remain in Colorado amid interest from NFL and top college coaching programs
Deion Sanders led the Colorado Buffaloes to an impressive run in the 2024 season, as they finished with a 9-4 record while getting the No. 20 rank in the country. Since then, Coach Prime has been the subject of interest from a handful of NFL teams, as well as some other top coaching programs.
Moreover, Sanders' sons, Shilo and Shedeur are also leaving Colorado by entering the 2025 NFL draft, leading to suggestions that the CU coach might also part ways with the program in the offseason.
However, Coach Prime plans to remain in Colorado next season. He was hired by the program in Dec. 2022 after signing a reported five-year, $29.5 million contract.
In two years at Colorado, Sanders had compiled a 13-12 record.
