Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Miami QB Cam Ward are expected to be top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. Shedeur helped the Buffs to a 9-4 campaign while losing their Alamo Bowl game to the BYU Cougars. He finished the season with 4,134 passing yards and 37 touchdowns while also being honored with the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

On the other hand, Ward helped the Hurricanes to a 10-3 season. He was unsuccessful in leading them to a Pop-Tart Bowl victory over Iowa State, finishing his final collegiate campaign with 4,313 passing yards and 39 touchdowns.

NFL draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. believes that both quarterbacks are special in their own way. He talked about how the Colorado QB is more of a pocket passer while Ward focuses on making running plays as a dual-threat QB. This makes comparing them a difficult situation.

"Shedeur is a guy who can surgically pick you apart from the pocket if you give him time," Kiper said. "He's old school. Cam Ward's kind of new school ... They are different. You can't compare these two because they are so different. One is pocket. One is moving around and improvising.
"So it depends what you like ... Who's the 3rd QB (in the 2025 NFL draft)? Ain't nobody you are excited about. So at the end of the day, these are the two guys whether you love them or you don't. They are gonna go in the top 3 of the draft."

NFL draft analyst stands in support of Shedeur Sanders as the No. 1 pick in the draft

Despite having a successful final season with the Colorado Buffaloes, some experts and scouts predict that Shedeur Sanders will not be a first-round pick in this year's draft.

However, NFL draft analyst J Tuck called out these experts, saying:

"I just spoke to a few NFL scouts and they informed me, that the scouts are telling you Shedeur Sanders isn't a first round pick should update their resume on Linkedln and file for unemployment."

Sanders might not have been able to lead the Buffs to a major title this season. However, the fact that he contributed to their first Bowl game appearance since 2020 is a testament to his talents. It will be interesting to see if he is drafted as the first overall pick in 2025.
