Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been linked with numerous NFL teams in the past week, one of them being the New York Giants.
The Giants are 2-8 on the season and have benched the struggling Daniel Jones for Tommy DeVito. This is a sign that after seven seasons, the Giants seem ready to move on from Jones and potentially bring in Shedeur Sanders.
Shedeur spoke with Drelon Miller on the latest edition of his podcast "2Legendary," where the pair discussed the Giants' season and their draft plans. Miller said:
“They (the New York Giants) just gotta take a second to regroup, just hopefully get someone good out of the draft."
Sanders responded:
"Come on, man, you being federal, I don't know, but no, I think it's just up to the staff and up to the coaches at that point. I don't know, no comment. That's just a safe route for me. Just no comment. I can't even make.
"I can't even turn water into wine right now. I can't do anything, so just no comment. But I would never prey on anybody's downfall. Though I would never do that. I would never do that, and I would never play on the team's downfall, players' downfall, anything, because I wouldn't want anybody to do that to me. So that's why I just just don't have a comment."
Sanders' response implies he knows that he may be the favorite choice of the Giants, whose general manager was at his game against Utah at the weekend. However, his reaction could also mean the complete opposite: that Sanders has no intention to join the Giants, so linking him with the team is almost comical.
The likelihood of Shedeur Sanders becoming a Giant will not only be dependent on the player but their draft spot (which could drop if DeVito succeeds) and more notably, the work of Shedeur's father, Deion Sanders.
Former Giant details why Shedeur Sanders isn't going to the team
Deion Sanders may stop his son from being drafted by the New York Giants, according to former Giant Chris Canty, who said on the "Unsportsmanlike Radio:"
“I don’t think I see Shedeur being there, and I think a big part of it is the state of the franchise. Since Super Bowl 46, the New York Giants are 78-126 in the regular season.
"They have the fourth-worst win percentage of all franchises in football. If you’re Deion Sanders, why the hell would you want Shedeur Sanders to sign up for that?”
Deion would want his son to play for a team that's well managed and organised and needs Shedeur to make them contenders. The Giants aren't in that position.
Wins have been rare, and while they have numerous skilled players on their roster, like Malik Nabers, they are much more than a quarterback away from success. That may be a reason why Shedeur Sanders to the Giants might not happen.
