Colorado coach Deion Sanders aka Coach Prime has been grappling with the loss of key stalwarts, Travis Hunter, Shilo, and Shedeur Sanders to the NFL via the 2025 Draft. As he rebuilds his roster, he has also sought to rebuild his staff by hiring head strength and conditioning coach Andrew Swasey, who was previously with the Miami Hurricanes.
Before being hired by Coach Prime, Swasey held the S&C title for 15 years at Miami and oversaw the other strength and conditioning coaches at the program. During a 2023 interview on "Life and Times TV," New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara revealed Swasey's eye-catching promise to him when they started working together in 2015.
"He said, 'If you keep working out with me, if you stick with me, you're gonna make $100 million.' Mind you, I still don't know who Swasey is," Kamara said. "I said, 'Alright bet, I don't got nothing to lose.' I don't wanna go all the way fast forward but fast forward and that was 2015, it's 2023 and I've just left Swasey this morning. And the figure part, we're kind of close to it, we are almost there."
Kamara signed a new two-year $24.5 million contract extension in October 2024 with $22 million guaranteed and $1.5 million in incentives.
Coach Prime introduces new coach during team meeting
In the year's first team meeting at the Champions Center, Coach Prime announced Andrew Swasey's arrival to the players as they outlined the team's expectations for the new season.
In a clip posted on "Well Off Media's" social media platforms, Swasey tacked onto Coach Prime's expectations for next season. He gave a powerful speech to the assembled players and immediately challenged them to step up in readiness for spring training.
"I love the platform, this opportunity to help change lives and help y'all get to your goals," Swasey said. "We didn't sign up here with Coach Prime to be average. When we go in there, you better buckle up."
“You be͏tter buckle up, listen to what I'm telling you, buckle up, watch the film. How'd you like the ball game? What team's playing right now? Is it you?” Swas͏ey ͏said. "If you ain't angry something wrong, I got a problem with you. How about that? How about that? I got a problem. You cool, what you gonna watch that again now."
Before the start of last season, Coach Prime revealed that his ultimate aim was to modernize the Buffaloes. He also wanted to bring the program up to NFL standards by hiring experienced professionals to help the players. With a sterling reputation, even among NFL circles where he helped produce 35 first-round draft picks, Andrew Swasey seems to be a continuation of that philosophy.
