Before he went on to win two NFL Most Valuable Player awards, Lamar Jackson was solidifying himself as one of the greatest collegiate quarterbacks of all time. During his time at Louisville, Jackson became the first player in the school's history to win the Heisman Trophy after a historic 2016 campaign.
After a legendary three-year career at Louisville, Jackson joined Johnny Unitas as the only two players in program history to have their jerseys retired. During his jersey retirement ceremony in 2021, Jackson reminisced with a heartfelt speech in front of Louisville's home crowd at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium.
"You guys never booed me. You guys never booed me," Jackson said to the crowd. "You guys never booed me, man, and to go from that, to win the Music City Bowl game and coming home with the Heisman in 2016 ... There's so many memories ....
"You guys have been with me every step of the way and I can't thank you guys enough. I wouldn't want to go to another school."
In three seasons as a Cardinal, Jackson was a consensus All-American, a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and a two-time ACC Offensive Player of the Year. He was also an AP Player of the Year, a Maxwell Award winner and the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner.
He led Louisville to three consecutive bowl games and finished his career as the all-time leader in total yards, rushing yards and yards per game. He completed 57% of his passes in college for 9,043 yards and 69 passing touchdowns. On the ground, he rushed for 4,132 yards and 50 touchdowns.
Lamar Jackson shines on Christmas
Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens suited up for a matchup versus the Houston Texans on Christmas Day. With a chance to take the division lead over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jackson capitalized.
The two-time MVP continued his campaign for his third with a strong performance versus Houston. He completed 10-of-15 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. He added four carries for 87 yards and a third touchdown on the ground.
With the win, Baltimore moves to first place in the AFC North with an 11-5 record, entering the final game of the regular season. If Baltimore tops the Cleveland Browns at home, they will clinch a division title over Pittsburgh.
The Ravens overtook the Steelers for the third seed in the AFC behind the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills.
