Former Michigan running back Blake Corum proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Makiah Shipp. They announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post on Sunday. The couple started dating in early 2022 and celebrated their third anniversary in May.

Corum's former Wolverines teammates were thrilled in the comments section of the post:

Corum ended his football career at Michigan on a high note, as the team clinched the national championship this past season, ending a 26-year drought. Meanwhile, Shipp worked as a research assistant at the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science and the Arts during the summer of 2022.

Former Michigan star Blake Corum awaits the upcoming 2024 NFL season. Selected in the third round as the 83rd overall, he joined the Los Angeles Rams.

Blake Corum’s girlfriend Makiah Shipp’s education

Blake Corum’s girlfriend, Makiah Shipp, is a civic engagement activist and author from Detroit, Michigan. She empowers young Black girls through storytelling and advocacy. A 2023 graduate from the University of Michigan, she wrote the children's book "Makiah's Show and Tell."

Shipp was a commissioner on the Ann Arbor Independent Community Police Oversight Commission from January 2021 to April 2023.

According to her LinkedIn, she was a field organizer for Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib's re-election campaign in 2020. Shipp is pursuing a Master’s in Elementary Education at Arizona State University and holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Policy from the University of Michigan.

Shipp was born on Aug. 21, 2002, in Detroit. She taught high school students how to secure college scholarships and collaborated with NBC on a segment about BIPOC Gen-Z voters in swing states.

She also participated in several panels, including the Chalkbeat Student Roundtable on Race and the S.H.A.U.N Foundation for Girls' "Black Girls Speak."

Corum’s life partner Shipp was also a student speaker at the sixth Africa America Institute State of Education on Africa Conference.
