Nick Saban's decision to retire sent a shock wave across the country. Despite being 72 years old, fans wanted to see the seven-time national champ continue to take Alabama's legacy forward.
The former head coach spoke about the changed environment of college football and has greatly expressed his discontent with NIL, the transfer portal and how the players behave in that regard.
However, Saban will return as an analyst on the ESPN "College GameDay" show with other hosts such as Pat McAfee and Rece Davis.
During a conversation with Lance Taylor, Kristen Saban gave her two cents on her dad's post-retirement life and what she thinks he misses the most:
"I think he's gonna miss that part, but he has such a good relationship with former players and some of the guys thattstayed with Alabama when the new coach came in. And I think he's always gonna have that connection and be able to talk to them, so that won't ever be severed."
"I feel like his drive for competition. I mean, sitting at a desk and talking, that's one thing, but you're not competing with anybody. You're just having conversation. So I think maybe a competition itch he might miss a little, but he's playing a lot of golf, so that's kind of making up." (Timestamp — 19:05)
Rece Davis reveals what it's like working with Nick Saban
Fans were thrilled to see Saban back in action for the first time since his retirement and enjoyed the former Alabama head coach's new role as an analyst.
While some people weren't thrilled about his new hairdo, others appreciated his in-depth insights and analysis of Alabama players, such as Dallas Turner and Terrion Arnold, and other teams' players, such as Ladd McConkey and Mike Sainristil.
During a podcast, Davis and Pete Thamel talked about a hilarious incident while shooting the show.
“I thought between that and a commercial break when they brought snacks around because it was late on Friday night and we were all getting punchy because we were tired,” Davis said. “And he just looked at me and goes, ‘Where are the oatmeal creme pies?’ It also showed the power of Saban that those were produced very quickly."
Fans will be intrigued to hear more of Saban's insights during the 2024 college football season.
