The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are having another excellent season this year, posting another double-dig win season with an 11-1 record. The team qualified for the College Football Playoffs as well, being named the seventh seed and being matched up with the Indiana Hoosiers this Saturday.

Norte Dame is relatively quiet on the transfer portal

Over at their transfer portal news, Notre Dame has been relatively quiet, with only three players officially on the portal, and they have declared their intentions back in October.

It has been reported that the reason it has been quiet for them on this front is due to preparations for the playoffs, and coach Marcus Freeman has reportedly put the team on notice that if any player enters the transfer portal during this period of preparations, he will not be allowed to play on the playoffs.

While Freeman is all in on the preparations for the playoffs, he will undoubtedly have at least an eye on the transfer portal market. With a bunch of key players on his defensive line leaving after this season, like Howard Cross III and Rylie Mills, Freeman would need to bolster his trenches for 2025.

Another position of need would be the wide receiver group. With their top receiver only going for 427 yards and two of their main guys leaving as well, they would need to turn to the portal for a new receiver, especially someone who will be their long-ball threat.

Here are their players currently on the transfer portal:

Jaden Mickey CB

Mickey entered the portal in September after deciding to redshirt this season to retain his two remaining years of eligibility. Mickey has spent the last three years with Notre Dame, but his playing time has been spotty in all of them.

A four-star recruit coming out of California, he played 11 games as a freshman and played all games as a sophomore last year but only started on one and two games in those seasons, respectively.

He won’t be short of suitors who could offer him a starting spot and more playing time. In three years with the Fighting Irish, he has put up 23 total tackles, three passes defended, and one interception, which was also returned for a touchdown.

Tyson Ford, DL (committed to California)

Ford entered the portal in October, but he hasn’t been with the team for a while. He was put on a medical scholarship over the summer. He played one season for Notre Dame, recording one tackle.

He was a four-star recruit coming out of Missouri and was expected to be a star for the defense, but younger players have now passed him up, and it only made sense that he transferred to a better situation. Last Friday, he announced his commitment to the California Golden Bears.

Aiden Gobaira, DE

Another four-star recruit who has not been with the team after being placed on a medical scholarship over the summer, Gobaira, is also looking for a new home.

He has not played a snap for the Fighting Irish, constantly battling knee injuries throughout his time with the team, most notably a torn ACL in 2023 during fall camp. He was also expected to be a star, but it remains to be seen if he is still the same player considering those injuries.
