The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were able to secure their trip to the national championship game as they won the Orange Bowl 27-24 over the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Notre Dame's championship odds were boosted significantly as they are already locked into the title game.
Furthermore, Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman is the first black coach to compete in the national championship game. It will be interesting to see the odds ahead of the championship game on Jan. 20.
But what exactly are the Notre Dame championship odds right now after their CFP semifinal victory at Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday?
Notre Dame's championship odds
Notre Dame's championship odds saw a big boost after the Orange Bowl victory as the field currently consists of only three teams: the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns.
The Fighting Irish's championship odds currently still have them in second place despite the victory.
Here's a closer look at the odds provided to win the national championship on DraftKings Sportsbook:
- Ohio State Buckeyes (-140)
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+250)
- Texas Longhorns (+450)
The oddsmakers are still believing in the Buckeyes, who would need to win against the Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl for a chance at glory against Notre Dame in the national championship game.
How would the national championship game odds look?
One thing that sportsbooks provide is look-ahead lines to see how they would have the potential matchups for the national championship game. They have already listed the odds for the national championship game regardless of what the Cotton Bowl results are.
If it is Notre Dame versus Ohio State, the Buckeyes are favored in that game by 8.5 points. However, if the Texas Longhorns make it to compete against Notre Dame in the national championship game, the odds have the Fighting Irish favored by 2.5 points at the moment.
Of course, these odds can change as injuries could occur during the Cotton Bowl and the status of the two injured offensive linemen for Notre Dame could be bad news as well.
But as of now, Ohio State would be big favorites while Texas would be an underdog in the national championship game when going up against Notre Dame's championship odds.
