We have an exciting Southeastern Conference matchup for Week 5 on Saturday afternoon as the No. 21 Oklahoma Sooners are heading to Jordan-Hare Stadium to take on the Auburn Tigers.
The Sooners (3-1, 0-1 SEC) are coming off a 25-15 home loss to the Tennessee Volunteers last Saturday. Freshman quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. did well coming off the bench as he finished going 11-of-18 for 132 yards and a touchdown while running 12 times for 22 yards (1.8 yards per attempt).
The Tigers (2-2, 0-1) are looking to bounce back after a 24-14 home loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks last Saturday. Senior quarterback Payton Thorne had a decent game as he went 13-of-22 for 213 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while running five times for 10 yards (2.0 yards per carry).
Oklahoma vs. Auburn prediction
The Oklahoma Sooners are starting Michael Hawkins Jr. over Jackson Arnold in this game, but they are still the better team in this matchup. The Sooners have become a lot less bet on as the week continued as they opened as three-point favorites and are now one-point underdogs.
Payton Thorne might make mistakes, as he has five interceptions this season, but is coming off a game where he threw for 213 yards. We are only asking for 50 passing yards per quarter and that should be attainable, even against this defense.
However, with a backup quarterback, the Sooners may look to run the ball more often and not want to put too much pressure on the freshman quarterback's hands. All in all, go with the Oklahoma Sooners to cover the spread in this game as the better bet.

Oklahoma vs. Auburn head-to-head
These teams are now opponents in the SEC and will compete against one another more often. However, this is the third time they are facing against each other. The Sooners hold a 2-0 series advantage. Their most recent game was in the 2017 Sugar Bowl, where Oklahoma secured a 35-19 victory.
