The Sonners' defense started off strong, with an interception on the game's opening drive. After a missed field goal from Oklahoma and an exchange of punts, the Sooners kicked a field goal at the end of the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead into the second period. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers struggled to find any rhythm early on, completing three of five passes for just 17 yards and an interception.

After a quiet first period, the Longhorns got things going in the second quarter, taking a 7-3 lead with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Gunnar Helm to cap off a 10-play, 75-yard drive. Back-to-back explosive plays resulted in another Texas touchdown with just under three minutes remaining in the first half, giving the Longhorns a 14-3 lead with halftime approaching.
After forcing a takeaway, Texas running back Quintrevion Wisner pulled off a big play with a 43-yard touchdown scamper with under two minutes remaining in the first half to put the Longhorns up 21-3.
