What is the name of the rivalry between the Indiana Hoosiers and Purdue Boilermakers?

The Indiana Hoosiers and Purdue Boilermakers compete for the Old Oaken Trophy. The concept of the Old Oaken Bucket trophy was based on an 1817 poem by Samuel Woodworth, a printer and publisher, and it presents the sentiments of the people of Indiana for their home state. The concept of the Old Oaken Bucket to be used as a trophy for the college football games rivalry was decided upon by alums from both Indiana and Purdue, who were based in Chicago. Accordingly, they found a bucket dating back to the Civil War on a farm in Southern Indiana and the winning team would attach a block letter representing the winner every year on it. The trophy was introduced in 1925 and has since then been awarded to the winners of the Indiana- Purdue rivalry.

The Old Oaken Bucket Trophy Winner Year by Year

The Indiana Hoosiers and the Purdue Boilermakers have already carried on their rivalry for 125 years since their first meeting on November 14, 1981. In that first game, Purduer emerged victorious against Indiana with a score of 60-0. Indiana finally got their first win against Purdue on November 30, 1899, by defeating them 17-5. Once the Old Oaken Bucket Trophy was introduced in 1925, Purdue was the first to claim it in 1926 as the game in 1925 was a tie. Indiana would get their first share of the Old Oaken Bucket trophy in 1930. Presently, Purdue leads their rivals with a score of 77-42-6 and both teams will be facing off once again on November 30, 2024-
