The Ole Miss Rebels suffered their second loss of the season in Week 7 at the hands of the No. 8 LSU Tigers.

LSU trailed for most of the game before a game-tying touchdown with just 27 seconds remaining to cap off a 13-play, 75-yard drive, forcing overtime. In overtime, the Tigers held Ole Miss to a field goal before Garrett Nussmeier connected with Kyren Lacy for a 25-yard touchdown to seal the game for LSU.

After losing to LSU 29-26, Ole Miss' playoff chances look drastically different entering Week 8. Here's a closer look at the Rebels' playoff picture after dropping to 5-2 on the season.

Where does Ole Miss rank in the AP Top 25?

The Rebels saw the biggest slide of any team in the Top 25 this week, falling to No. 18 in the country, their lowest ranking of the season thus far.

They are the highest-ranked two-loss team in the country. The only other two-loss team featured on the Top 25 is the No. 24 Michigan Wolverines.

What are the odds for Ole Miss to win the national championship?

Following their loss, the Rebels have the eighth-highest national championship odds, per BetMGM, with +3500 odds. They are coincidentally ahead of LSU (+4000) but have the fifth-best odds among SEC teams.

  • Texas Longhorns (+375)
  • Georgia Bulldogs (+450)
  • Ohio State Buckeyes (+450)
  • Oregon Ducks (+550)
  • Alabama Crimson Tide (+850)
  • Penn State Nittany Lions (+1400)
  • Clemson Tigers (+2000)
  • Tennessee Volunteers (+2000)
  • Miami Hurricanes (+2000)
  • Ole Miss (+3500)

Will Ole Miss make the College Football Playoff?

The road to the College Football Playoff certainly gets more interesting for Ole Miss following their second loss. Ole Miss will have to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. A bid to the SEC championship is unlikely, but the Rebels have one final opportunity to make their case as a playoff team.

On Saturday, Nov. 9, the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs will travel to Oxford to take on the Rebels. If Ole Miss can take down the Bulldogs, they will have a shot at the College Football Playoff.
