The Orange Bowl is the oldest college football bowl game in the United States. Established in 1935, 90 editions of the Orange Bowl games have been played in college football. Presently known as the Capital One Orange Bowl, this college football game has been a member of the College Football Playoff (CFP) tournament since 2014. Previously, the Orange Bowl was a member of the Bowl Coalition from 1992 to 1994, the Bowl Alliance from 1995 to 1997, and the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) from 1998 to 2013.

The Orange Bowl was previously hosted in the Miami Gardens, also known as the Miami Orange Bowl. The Orange Bowl has been played at the Hard Rock Stadium since 1996. The Orange Bowl game on December 30, 2023, saw the Florida State Seminoles facing off against the Georgia Bulldogs. The Georgia Bulldogs went on to win the game with a 63-3 score.

The 91st edition of the Orange Bowl is scheduled to take place on January 9, 2025, with the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish facing off against each other in the semi-finals of the CFP.

Hard Rock Stadium hosts the Orange Bowl, according to the official website of the Hard Rock Stadium. Located at 347 Don Shula Drive, Miami Gardens, Florida, United States, it is a multi-purpose stadium that was opened to the fans on August 16, 1987, as the Joe Robbie Stadium. The Hard Rock Stadium is the home stadium of the Miami Dolphins of the NFL. The stadium has hosted six Super Bowls as well as the 2010 Pro Bowl. Additionally, the Miami Hurricanes football team of the University of Miami also play their home games at the Hard Rock Stadium. The stadium has hosted the Orange Bowl every year since 1996, except in 1999.

Orange Bowl Stadium construction and cost

The construction of the Hard Rock Stadium was initiated as Joe Robbie, the principal founder of the Miami Dolphins wished to have a new stadium for his team. Accordingly, the construction of the stadium started on December 1, 1985, and it was finally introduced to the fans on August 16, 1987, under the name of Joe Robbie Stadium. The stadium was initially designed by Populous in 1987. At the time, the construction of the stadium cost $115 million. The stadium went through several renovations in 1993, 2006 to 2007, 2009 to 2010 and 2015 to 2016. The last round of renovations cost $550 million as per StadiumDB.

Hard Rock Stadium is notable for having eight spiral features, with two in each corner of the stadium. The stadium also has two rings of general admission seating alongside 200 private boxes. The stadium also has 75,000 seats for the fans. Moreover, it has two large pavilions which expand the spectator, office, and hospitality facilities on the sides. The lower stands were reconfigured in 2015. Moreover, the upper corner sections of the stadium were reduced to several rows, which allowed for adding four large screens of 520 meters per square. The 2016 renovations also led to the addition of the roof, considered to be one of the most spectacular roofs, as per StadiumDB.

Orange Bowl Stadium capacity

Hard Rock Stadium, the home of the Orange Bowl games has the capacity to support 65,326 total fans, as per StadiumDB. This includes 27,397 fans in the lower ring, 34,736 fans in the upper ring, 3,198 fans in 192 skyboxes, 10,209 fans in business seats, 150 fans in press seats, and 300 fans in disabled seats.

The stadium witnessed a record attendance of 80,120 fans during the 2013 BCS National Championship Game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on January 7, 2013.

The parking gates of the stadium will open at 2 pm on Game Day, as per the Orange Bowl official site. The fans must have a physical hand-tag parking pass for entering the black, silver, pink, and purple lots on game day. For mobile passes, they need to go to the orange and the yellow lots, where they will be accepted as per the Orange Bowl official site.
