Oregon Ducks’ Football Song
Beginning around 2010, the Oregon Ducks used the song "Shout" to energize fans and players during football match-ups as per Yahoo Sports. Played toward the end of the third quarter, the tradition hypes up the fans before the last quarter of play. The song was initially performed by The Isley Brothers in 1959. It acquired popularity through the 1978 film National Lampoon's Animal House, which was shot at the University of Oregon. In the film, the fictional band Otis Day and the Knights performed "Shout" during a toga party scene which established its connection with the university.
The decision to incorporate "Shout" into Oregon football match-ups honors the film's legacy at the school. Nike paid homage to this tradition in 2015 with a "Shout" film that recreated the toga party scene. It featured Ducks alumnies like Marcus Mariota and LaMichael James. The tradition has become a staple at Autzen Arena, where players and fans alike jump, sing, and dance to get ready for the final quarter.
Former linebacker Troy Dye was known for driving the crowd during the song, however, he noticed that the energy of "Yell" wasn't similar outside Autzen, including at the 2019 Pac-12 Championship and the 2020 Rose Bowl.
