Dan Lanning's Oregon Ducks will be heading into their first season in the Big Ten Conference following the demise of Pac-12. Coach Lanning is making every possible effort to prepare the team for the year.
During the team's practice session on Tuesday, coach Lanning incorporated crowd noise to prepare the guys for an experience similar to gameday as they get accustomed to the coach-player communication in loud atmospheres.
Talking about the importance of this type of practice, Dan Lanning said:
"We have got to get better operation," said Coach Lanning after Tuesday's practice. "We've really attacked that the last couple days. I think that's really good. We got to keep incorporating more crowd noise for our guys, so they get used to that. So we had some of that today.
"Just because we're going to play in some loud stadiums. Our stadium is a loud stadium when our defense is out there, right? The coach-to-player communication is a little bit different. How are you going to use that? And what's that going to look like on the field?"
Dan Lanning's Oregon's biggest matchups in 2024
Dan Lanning will face the Ohio State Buckeyes on October 12, one of the season's most awaited showdowns. Ryan Day's team has been ranked above Oregon in most of the preseason rankings because of its loaded roster, which includes crucial transfer portal stars like Alabama's Caleb Downs and Ole Miss' Quinshon Judkins.
Oregon will face the defending national champions Michigan on November 2 at Ann Arbor. Despite losing big names like J.J. McCarthy, Blake Corum, and most importantly, Jim Harbaugh, Michigan will likely give Dan Lanning's crew a tough fight.
The showdown between Oregon and Washington is one of the most exciting rivalries in college football right now. Surprisingly, the Huskies have beaten the Ducks three out of three times in faceoffs.
However, with Kalen DeBoer and many of the crucial players and coaching staff gone from their roster, this year might just be Lanning's time to shine.
Fans would be interested to see how Lanning is able to perform in his first season playing in the Big Ten despite facing new teams and extended travel time.
