Oregon State vs Nevada: Preview
Oregon State is a 3.5-point road favorite to defeat Nevada on Saturday. The over/under is set at 47.5 points.
Oregon State is coming off a thrilling home OT win over Colorado State. In the win, the Beavers were led by running back Anthony Hankerson, who rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries.
The passing game struggled as quarterback Gevani McCoy threw for just 147 yards and a pick.
Oregon State rallied to win Colorado State and coach Trent Bray says the resiliency of the Beavers has been their calling card.
"I think it says a lot about their ability, again, to handle these tough moments, handle adversity. When things aren’t going great for us, they respond and with toughness and grit. And it’s a great quality to have," Bray said, via OregonLive.
"And so there’s going to be games, I mean every year you can point out a couple games in those tight, one- or two-point games that swing a season. And I think so. That’s why I think this win was so big to be able to pull it out," he added.
This season, Oregon State has aced its running game, as Hankerson rushed for 485 yards and nine touchdowns, while Jam Griffin has rushed for 450 yards and four touchdowns.
Defensively, the Beavers are led by Nikko Taylor, who has two sacks, and Skylar Thomas leads the team with 32 tackles.
Nevada, meanwhile, is coming off a disappointing loss to San Jose State. The Wolf Pack were led by quarterback Brendon Lewis, who threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 90 yards and two touchdowns.
However, it wasn't enough, and Wolf Pack coach Jeff Choate said the loss was frustrating, but he was impressed with the team keeping it close.
"I told them we're going to play a lot of close games this season. That's just kind of who we are right now," Choate said, via Reno Gazette Journal. "As we continue to build our culture, we're going to have that breakthrough," he added.
This season, Lewis has thrown for 1,081 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions while rushing for 362 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively, Henry Ikahihifo has 2.5 sacks, while Tongiaki Mateialona leads the team with 42 tackles.
This should be a close game, as Nevada is better than its record indicates. Lewis has been solid at quarterback, but this Oregon State offense is legit and should be able to score.
The Beavers will be able to go on the road and get a massive win here.
Prediction: Oregon State 28, Nevada 24
