P. J. Fleck, also known as Philip John Fleck Jr., has been the head coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Big Ten Conference since 2017. Hailing from Sugar Grove, Illinois, Fleck started for Northern Illinois in 1999 and played till 2003. The Kaneland High School Hall of Famer (2014) was then signed by the San Francisco 49ers in 2004 where he played for a season.

The two-time MAC Coach of the Year (2014, 2016) started his coaching career at Ohio State (GA) in 2006. Since then, Fleck has coached other teams such as Northern Illinois (WR), Rutgers (WR), Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Western Michigan, and Minnesota. In 2019, Fleck became the first coach to win the most games (11) for Minnesota in a season since 1904.
