Penn State vs Purdue: Preview
Penn State is a 28.5-point favorite to defeat Purdue. The over/under is set at 51 points.
The Nittany Lions returned to the win column with a victory over Washington. It was a statement win from Penn State who remains in firm standing to host a playoff game.
"I think the biggest thing on offense and defense is that we were able to control first down," coach James Franklin said, via SI. "On offense, we averaged seven yards per play in the first half. Defensively, we were able to stay ahead of the sticks all night long, and that allows you to be in advantageous third down situations. That allows you to push the ball down the field. That allows you to be aggressive on defense to go after the quarterback. So, I think first down was a big factor in that game and how it played out."
The Nittany Lions are led by Drew Allar who's thrown for 2,006 yards, 13 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Kaytron Allen has rushed for 634 yards and five touchdowns, and Tyler Warren has caught 59 passes for 681 yards and four touchdowns.
Defensively, Penn State is led by Jaylen Reed who has three interceptions, Abdul Carter has eight sacks, and Reed also leads the team with 57 tackles.
Purdue, meanwhile, has lost eight straight games after winning its first game of the year. The Boilermakers were shut out and coach Ryan Walters wishes the offense could have had more success.
“I just wish we could have pushed the ball downfield a little more," Walters said, via ESPN.
Purdue is led by Hudson Card who's thrown for 1,113 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions. Devin Mockobee has rushed for 612 yards, and three touchdowns while Max Klare leads the team with 475 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Purdue is led by Kyndrich Breedlove who has three interceptions, while Kydran Jenkins has 5.5 sacks, and Dillon Thieneman has 75 tackles.
Penn State should blow out Purdue here as the Boilermakers' offense and defense are a concern. The Nittany Lions will be able to score at will but will likely rest some starters down the stretch to make sure everyone is healthy for the playoffs.
Prediction: Penn State 37, Purdue 10
