The Boilermakers will travel to play Ohio State, one of the best teams in the country. Purdue has lost seven straight games after winning its season opener.
The Boilermakers are coming off a 26–20 overtime loss to Northwestern. Purdue went for it on fourth down instead of kicking the field goal and didn't get it.
"From that down and distance and that hash, that's been a struggle for us in the kicking game," coach Ryan Walters said, via SI.
"Had a discussion — that's why we called timeout, to thoroughly process the situation and what decision to make and just felt like, from a percentage standpoint, we had a higher probability of getting that first down than we did kicking that field goal. Felt like we had a good play call to get that first down. So, that's the decision we made."
Purdue is led by Hudson Card who's thrown for 1,005 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Devin Mockobee has rushed for 539 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Kyndrich Breedlove has three interceptions, Kydran Jenkins has 5.5 sacks and Dillon Thieneman has 64 tackles.
Ohio State, meanwhile, is coming off a massive road win over Penn State to keep its Big Ten Championship hopes alive.
"This was a big game for us for a lot of reasons. A top-five team win like this on the road in a tough environment, moving Donnie [Donovan Jackson] over to left tackle," coach Ryan Day said, via SI.
"We knew we had to win the rushing yards, the turnover battle was going to be big, and then no negative plays. And that’s what we really focused on, but at the end of the day we had to find a way to get a stop and get that extra first down. So, I think this is going to build us moving forward, and getting this win for our guys is going to go a long way."
Ohio State has been led by Will Howard who's thrown for 1,977 yards, 19 touchdowns and five interceptions. Quinshon Judkins has rushed for 615 yards and six touchdowns. Jeremiah Smith leads the way with 678 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
Defensively, the Buckeyes are led by Denzel Burke who has two interceptions, JT Tuimoloau who has 4.5 sacks and Sonny Styles who has 52 tackles.
This will be a lopsided game, as Ohio State will dominate Purdue on both sides of the ball for a blowout win at home. The Buckeyes' main focus will be escaping the game without a major injury.
Prediction: Ohio State 44, Purdue 6
