Quinn Ewers injury update: Texas HC Steve Sarkisian provides the latest on availability for CFB Week 9

Quinn Ewers injury update for CFB Week 9

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered a Grade 2 AC sprain in his throwing shoulder during the game against Houston last Saturday. Considering the nature of the injury, the signal-caller was expected to be out of action for an extended period, which could rule him out of the season.

However, it appears Ewers may not be sidelined for long, much to the excitement of the Longhorns fans. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, head coach Steve Sarkisian noted that the program is doing everything possible to ensure the quarterback returns to action very soon.

“Quinn and Ethan Burke will both be week to week at this point. You never really know exactly how bodies respond to injury. We’re just going to have to monitor these guys on a weekly basis. Obviously, we’re going to do everything in our power to get those guys back sooner rather than later.”

Quinn Ewers injury update: Optimism of the possibility of star QB's return

There's a great deal of optimism within the Longhorns football program that Quinn Ewers will return to action this season. Speaking on Andy Staples' podcast on Tuesday, Bobby Burton of Inside Texas gave a clearer picture of the current Ewers' situation.

“Sark described him as week to week,” Burton said. “From behind the scenes, what we’re hearing, three to four weeks maybe. That’s what they’re hopeful for or when himself and his family are hopeful for. But we don’t know. It could linger.”

There is currently no specific timeline for Quinn Ewers's return, but there is a sense of optimism that he will be back in action this season as the Longhorns aim to secure their final Big 12 championship and potentially earn their first College Football Playoff berth.

The battle between Maalik Murphy and Arch Manning

With Quinn Ewers sidelined, the battle for the Texas Longhorns' starting job is now open between redshirt freshman Maalik Murphy and true freshman Arch Manning. Steve Sarkisian has conveyed his confidence in the two quarterbacks to guide the team in Ewers's absence.

Murphy is internally considered to be the backup quarterback within the program and came in to replace Ewers against Houston. His running abilities introduce a new dimension to the team's offensive strategy, making him a valuable asset that the Longhorns' offense can leverage.

On the other hand, Manning has not had the chance to take an official snap in college football as of now. Given the situation in which Texas finds itself currently, it seems highly unlikely that Sarkisian and his coaching staff would choose to put him in a game at this point in the season.
