There are mixed reviews about Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders as April's NFL Draft slowly approaches, with some interesting reports emerging recently. On Friday, former New York Jets scout Daniel Kelly quoted a New York Post tweet on X which said that Sanders wasn't graded as "anything close" to an NFL first-rounder by some scouts.
"As a former #NFL Scout, I was surprised to see this article about Shedeur Sanders in the New York Post," Kelly wrote on X on Friday. "It's so rare that anything like this leaks into the media from a major media outlet pre-draft about a 'popular prospect'."
What is the draft situation for Shedeur Sanders?
Daniel Kelly has been on the record to note that Shedeur Sanders may not have the ability to make it big in the NFL. He was very vocal with his criticism of Sanders's play in the Alamo bowl game.
"Went back and watched the tape this morning—Shedeur Sanders melted down like a snowman against No. 17 BYU," Kelly posted after that game. "Can't even imagine how timid and overwhelmed he will look against the speed and complexity of the #NFL"
Other concerns arise from the fact that the elder Sanders, Coach Prime, might want to have his say in where his sons end up at the next level. There are quarterback-needy teams at the top of the draft, but some of them might not be preferred destinations for the Sanders.
Coach Prime is reported to have shown some interest in taking over for the Las Vegas Raiders, who fired head coach Antonio Pierce and general manager Tom Telesco earlier this week. If Coach Prime winds up in Las Vegas, it's almost a certainty that his quarterback son will join him.
Coach Prime said Wednesday on Good Morning America that the only way in which he would make the leap to the NFL was if both his sons (Shedeur and Shilo) were on the team that reached out to him with an offer.
