"In the NFL, you can't do that": Former NFL player issues reality check to Shedeur Sanders after he skipped meeting during CFB game

The lead-up to Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders being taken in this April's NFL draft is almost sure to be dramatic. In many other years, there has always seemed to be a clear-cut favorite to be the first passer taken. However, this one is different, and Sanders is definitely in the mix to have his name called early.

NFL analyst Ross Tucker feels Sanders is in for a bit of a rude awakening at the professional level, thanks in part to an interaction—or lack of one—with the Buffaloes signal-caller earlier this season.

"In production meetings, Shedeur chose not to meet with us, which I thought was interesting," Tucker said Wednesday on Cleveland's 92.3 The Fan radio station. "In the NFL, you can't do that. I guess he was able to make those decisions or do what he wanted to do in college, and that's totally fine.
"But I just think he has a unique background, and I think Colorado was a unique environment. I would just make very, very darn sure that Shedeur would be on board with being a professional in every way that you need him to be a professional."

Can Shedeur Sanders end up in Cleveland?

Shedeur Sanders' father, Pro Football Hall of Famer and Buffaloes coach, Deion Sanders, has said he will have some part in where his sons land in the NFL. Such a statement leads many to wonder if Shedeur would be willing to play for a team that drafts him early, such as the Cleveland Browns with the No. 2 overall choice.

"I think you'd have to do a lot of background work and have a lot of discussions with Shedeur about whether he wants to be in Cleveland, how it would work," Tucker said. "That's an interesting situation."

As it pertains to Cleveland and Shedeur Sanders, former Browns star Josh Cribbs has his own thoughts.

"It's not a diss to Shedeur. It's just his father is very prominent, right?" Cribbs said Wednesday on his podcast, 'The Return With Josh & Maria Cribbs.' "I don't want it to be a situation like Eli Manning when he came out and he just refused to go to another NFL team. They basically put him with the New York Giants. He had success. It worked.
"I don't think Prime — Deion Sanders — would allow his pride and joy, Shedeur Sanders, to come to the Browns at this point in our organizational rebuild."

Shedeur Sanders might learn quickly that things aren't going to fly in the NFL like they have otherwise.

"It certainly felt like, from my experience, that the players were running the show in Colorado," Tucker said. "And they had a lot of success this year, and maybe that's fine. But, I think that's gonna be a wake-up call for him and, to a lesser extent, Travis Hunter, is going from college where it was a player-run operation ... to the NFL where you're gonna be a rookie — and you're not running any show."
