Rutgers vs Maryland: Preview
Rutgers is a 5.5-point underdog on the road against Maryland. The over/under is set at 51 points.
The Scarlet Knights looked good in their solid win over Minnesota. Rutgers had been led by its defense, but the offense performed well against Minnesota, which coach Gregn Schiano was happy about.
"I think we are just continuing to get better," Greg Schiano said in a postgame conference. 'There's no, like, "ah-ha" moment. I think everybody is getting more comfortable with the little details that are required, and the way we practice. We don't do a ton," Schiano said, via the team website.
"We just try to do what we do, and try to do it exact and do it well. I think our quarterback, Athan, did a heck of a job. He's been doing a heck of a job. He's getting better and better. You know, really proud of those young backs today, with Kyle out, Ja'Shon Benjamin and Antwan, those guys, it's a true freshman, and a redshirt freshman. Really proud of them."
Rutgers is led by Athan Kaliakmanis who's thrown for 1,890 yards, 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Kyle Monangai has rushed for 931 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Defensively, Shaquan Loyal has two interceptions, Kyonte Hamilton has 3.5 sacks, and Dariel Djabome has 83 tackles.
Maryland, meanwhile, is on a two-game losing streak and coming off a loss to Oregon who's the No. 1 team in the country. The Terrapins have struggled on both sides of the ball this season.
Maryland is led by Billy Edwards Jr. who's thrown for 2,520 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. Tai Felton has caught 80 passes for 979 yards and 6 touchdowns.
The Terrapins need to win two of its final three games to be bowl-eligible. This should be a competitive game, but Maryland should be able to edge out a win here.
Rutgers' offense will likely struggle as it has this season, outside the win over Minnesota. Maryland at home is also a tough spot to play as the Terrapins edge out a big win here.
Prediction: Maryland 27, Rutgers 23
