Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams was one of the most sought-after recruits in the 2024 class. He has had a solid rookie season with 42 receptions and 804 yards through the first 11 games of Alabama's (8-3) season. However, the Crimson Tide have not had the season they expected and will likely miss the playoff.
With Nick Saban no longer the head coach, the appeal of signing with Alabama could be gone for some players. As a result, young stars like Williams could be interested in transferring to another school.
Ryan Williams has not entered the transfer portal. Until he says otherwise, he will remain a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide. However, there is always the possibility that he could enter the transfer portal once the season comes to a close. Alabama still has crucial games left, including one against Auburn on Saturday.
Ryan Williams potential transfer portal landing spots
If Ryan Williams decides to enter the transfer portal, he will not have a shortage of teams interested in bringing him to their program. He was only 17 years old in his rookie season and could take a big jump forward next year.
Here are five teams that would be a good fit.
#1 Texas
If Ryan Williams opts to enter the portal, one of the best fits for him would be Texas.
Quarterback Quinn Ewers is set to enter the 2025 NFL draft. Backup Arch Manning is expected to take up the mantle as the starter.
With a young quarterback in Manning taking over, it would make sense for the Longhorns to recruit a young star wide receiver like Williams. Additionally, Texas is still likely to be a top team next season, so it could be appealing for Williams.
#2 Colorado
Historically, Colorado is not a huge destination for top recruits. However, since Deion Sanders arrived a few years ago, it has steadily improved its stock in the college football landscape. The Buffaloes will need a few new stars as quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way player Travis Hunter head to the 2025 NFL draft.
Sanders has already helped the Buffaloes recruit highly-touted quarterback prospect Julian Lewis. So, it would make sense to pair him with a young star wide receiver. Ryan Williams could be an option if he's interested in learning under Coach Prime.
#3 Michigan
The defending national champions have not had the season they hoped for after a stellar 2023. However, they had a big win in November when five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood flipped his commitment from LSU to Michigan. He made his decision to flip after Michigan gave him a record-setting NIL deal that is expected to pay him $10.5 million.
With a new star quarterback in place, the Michigan Wolverines could look for a star wide receiver to help him out. There are few better options than Ryan Williams. If Michigan can pry Underwood away from LSU, they might be able to pry Williams away from Alabama.
#4 Oregon
No. 1-ranked Oregon has helped its chances of bringing in top recruits with its stellar 2024 season. Although the program typically does not build through the transfer portal, coach Dan Lanning has made a few big splashes in recent years, including signing Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel. If the Ducks were to make a move this offseason, Ryan Williams would be an excellent fit.
#5 Ole Miss
Ole Miss is always a big player in the transfer portal. They have had college football's No. 1 portal class in two of the past three seasons. The team could use some wide receiver help and there will not be many better options than Ryan Williams.
