The Sam Houston Bearkats go on the road to play the FIU Panthers on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game can be seen on ESPNU.

Sam Houston vs FIU Preview

Sam Houston is a 5.5-point favorite on the road while the over/under is 45.5 points.

The Bearkats' four-game winning streak snapped against Western Kentucky last week. Sam Houston was outscored 14-0 in the second half as the Bearkats' offense struggled to get going, which was disappointing.

“We lost to a good football team. We had to play better. We had plenty of opportunities. At the end, it got away from us a little bit. Losing Hunter hurt us, but we had a lot of confidence in JB. That didn’t rattle us, it just meant we had to make more plays,” Sam Houston head coach K.C. Keeler said, via itemonline.
“I told the boys that you lost to a good football team, you had to play better, you didn’t in all three phases. And guess what, it’s a short week, so get over it and we must move on. We travel in six days to play at FIU."

Quarterback Hunter Watson leads Sam Houston. He has thrown for 987 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing for 407 yards and four TDs.

On defense, the Bearkats are led by Caleb Weaver with three interceptions, Chris Murray with 3.5 sacks and Weaver with 47 tackles.

FIU, meanwhile, is on a two-game losing streak as the Panthers have lost road games to UTEP and Liberty. Last week, FIU lost 30-21 to UTEP in a game the Panthers led going into the fourth quarter but were outscored 10-0 in the final quarter to lose.

Quarterback Keyone Jenkins left with an injury, and it's unlikely he will play against Sam Houston, which is tough for FIU.

“We’re really beat up,” FIU coach Mike MacIntyre said, via Miami Herald, “and it’s a short week.”

The Panthers have been led by Kejon Owens who's rushed for 301 yards and five TDs, while Eric Rogers leads the way with 539 receiving yards and four TDs.

Defensively, FIU is led by Travion Barnes with three sacks and 85 tackles.

Ultimately, with Jenkins' status up in the air, this is a good spot for Sam Houston to go on the road and pick up another big win and extend FIU's losing streak. The Panthers are struggling to produce offense and will continue to do so with their QB injured.

Prediction: Sam Houston 28, FIU 20
