Iowa Hawkeyes defensive back Sebastian Castro has earned the starting role over the past three seasons. Castro began his high school football career at Richards High School where he was a captain during both his junior and senior seasons. Castro was rated a three-star recruit by every major sports outlet and was ranked the No.27 prospect in the state of Illinois. As a defensive back for the Bulldogs, Castro recorded 210 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 11 interceptions and seven pass breakups. Castro started his collegiate football journey with Iowa over offers from Minnesota, Iowa State, Illinois, Syracuse, and Notre Dame.

In his true freshman year with the Hawkeyes, Castro did not see any game time and redshirted the year. He earned his major breakthrough in 2021 as a redshirt sophomore, playing in all 14 games and accumulating five solo tackles and one assist. Then in 2022, Castro saw action in 13 games starting eight and recording 22 solo tackles and 12 assists. Last season, Castro had one more productive season with the Hawkeyes racking up 67 tackles, eight pass breakups, and three interceptions in all 14 games and earned himself a Phil Steele honorable mention. Despite several rumors, Castro refused to enter the transfer portal and decided to return to Iowa for one final season of college football.
