SEC Power Rankings after Week 2: Georgia & Texas lead the rally with a perfect record

As many predicted, the SEC is looking to be a more interesting conference in 2024. The arrival of Texas and Oklahoma has undoubtedly added excitement to the league.

The conference had a decent outing in Week 2 with many teams defeating non-conference opponents. A couple of conference games were also played.

#1. Texas, 2-0

Texas secured an emphatic win against Michigan on Saturday in Ann Arbor to lead the SEC power rankings. The SEC newcomers are geared up for their first year in the conference with brilliant non-conference wins. The Longhorns are scheduled to face UTSA next.

Georgia had a brilliant outing in Week 2 with a win against Tennessee Tech. The Bulldogs opened the season on a fantastic note against Clemson and kept the momentum on Saturday. Kirby Smart's team is slated to play Kentucky in Week 3.

#3. Alabama, 2-0

Alabama continued to navigate life after Nick Saban with another win on Saturday. The team secured a win against South Florida on Saturday with an explosive late performance in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide are scheduled to play Wisconsin in their next game.

#4. Tennessee, 2-0

Tennessee gave a glimpse of what to expect in the 2024 season with a blowout win against NC State on Saturday. The Volunteers are looking to become a contender in the conference this season and seal a playoff spot. They will be playing Kent State in Week 3.

#5. Ole Miss, 2-0

Many analysts touted Ole Miss to become a contender in the conference this season, and the team looks set to live up to the billing. The Rebels blew out Middle Tennessee in Week 2 and will hope to keep the momentum when they play Wake Forest in Week 3.

Missouri was one of the surprise packages of the SEC in 2023, and the team is looking to keep up the momentum this season. The Tigers extended their brilliant start to 2024 with a win against Buffalo on Saturday. They will face Boston College in Week 3.

Oklahoma struggled to secure a win against Houston on Saturday, but the team showed some defensive resilience that could help it navigate life in the SEC. The Sooners play Tulane in Week 3 before they embark on their SEC schedule.

LSU bounced back from the opening-day loss to USC with a win against Nicholls State on Saturday. The Tigers are looking to return as contenders in the SEC this season and seal a spot in the playoff. They play South Carolina in Week 3.

South Carolina has had a dream start to the 2024 season following the disappointment of 2023. The Gamecocks conveniently saw off Kentucky in a conference matchup on Saturday and will hope to keep the momentum when they play LSU in Week 3.

Texas A&M bounced back from the opening-day defeat to Notre Dame by blowing out McNeese on Saturday. The Aggies enter into a new era under Mike Elko in 2024 and will hope to become a real contender in the college football landscape. The team plays Florida next.

Arkansas fell to Oklahoma State in Week 2, but the Razorbacks put up a great fight in the encounter. It took two overtimes before the Cowboys could defeat Sam Pittman’s team. The Razorbacks will hope to bounce back against UAB in Week 3.

Vanderbilt is looking to change the status quo in 2024 by securing a winning season for the first time since 2013. The Commodores already has as many wins as they did last season after blowing out Alcorn State. They are billed to face Georgia State in Week 3.

#13. Auburn, 1-1

Auburn started the season with a big win against Alabama A&M. However, the team fell to Cal in Week 2 in a performance that calls for a lot of concern. Hugh Freeze is hoping to get the best out of the Tigers this season. They play against New Mexico next.

Florida started the season on a disappointing note with a loss to in-state rival Miami. However, the Gators bounced back with an emphatic win against Samford on Saturday. Nonetheless, the team has a lot of mountains to climb this season as pressure mounts on Billy Napier. They play Texas A&M in Week 3.

#15. Mississippi State, 1-1

Mississippi State suffered a loss against Arizona State on Saturday after its opening-day win. Jeff Lebby is looking to change the culture at the program after taking over this offseason. The Bulldogs play Toledo in Week 3.

Kentucky was blown out at home by South Carolina on Saturday following a win in the season opener. The Wildcats are looking to have a good season in 2024 but face a tough test in Week 3 as they are scheduled to play Georgia.
