Shedeur Sanders and Malik Nabers were spotted playing catch on the streets of New York during the Heisman Trophy weekend. Their linkup sparked rumors that the New York Giants would select Sanders in the upcoming NFL draft.
However, a former New York Jets scout, Daniel Kelly, dismissed the speculation. Kelly, who runs the account First Round Mock on X (formerly known as Twitter), wrote:
"Shedeur Sanders to the Giants would be a disaster. Sanders is the most sacked QB in college football the past 2 seasons (90), and the Giants are the most sacked team in the #NFL the past 2 seasons (132) according to Stat Muse."
Hence, it begs the question of whether the Colorado Buffaloes star's decision to take his talents to New York in 2025 will be a savvy move.
Will the New York Giants draft Shedeur Sanders?
The New York Giants are on track to get a top-three pick in the 2025 NFL draft. The Giants released long-time starting quarterback Daniel Jones earlier this season, making their intentions clear for the rest of the regular season.
If New York gets a top-two pick, they'll likely select Shedeur Sanders. However, it depends on whether another quarterback-needy team picks before them in the draft.
The Las Vegas Raiders are hunting for a top-tier rookie quarterback, and Coach Prime told Antonio Pierce to draft both his sons. The Tennessee Titans could be in the hunt for a signal caller following Will Levis' struggles over the past season and a half.
Hence, the Giants will need a more straightforward path to drafting arguably the best quarterback of the upcoming draft and Malik Nabers seems to be playing the role of an agent pretty admirably.
What next for Shedeur Sanders?
Before Sanders starts his draft tour, he must navigate a bowl game against the BYU Cougars. Sanders has repeatedly stated his desire to play in the bowl game rather than sit it out to avoid a pre-combine injury.
He'll be joined by Shilo Sanders and Travis Hunter, who are set to appear in the upcoming draft. Hunter is a potential number-one overall pick, while Shilo Sanders is slated to be a late-round or early free-agent pick-up ahead of the 2025 regular season.
