Shedeur Sanders was never the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy in 2024, but he was a popular dark horse pick among experts. It is not hard to understand why as he had more than 3,200 passing yards in each of the last three seasons.

Additionally, with Sanders playing with a superstar receiver in Travis Hunter, he has the opportunity to rack up big numbers once again. However, after Week 2, his Heisman odds took a significant hit.

What are Shedeur Sanders' Heisman Odds after week 2?

Sanders had a strong Week 1, but his Week 2 performance was not impressive. He completed 23 of 38 pass attempts and threw for 244 yards, and while that is not a bad performance on its own, he only threw one touchdown and also threw an interception. Additionally, he was sacked five times in the Colorado Buffaloes' loss to Nebraska.

While the loss does not solely fall on Sanders' shoulders, it has hurt his odds heading into Week 3. His current odds with FanDuel is +10,000 to win the Heisman Trophy. This puts him tied for 25th in odds and behind teammate Travis Hunter.

One of the biggest issues facing Sanders is his team. The Heisman Trophy rarely goes to teams that are not ranked high. For example, FanDuel has the top four players in the race as Quinn Ewers, Cameron Ward, Carson Beck and Jaxon Dart. These are all players on teams that are either in the top 10 or will likely be in the top 10 after the Week 2 rankings are updated.

Colorado is an unranked team, and as a result, it is going to be much harder for Sanders to win the award. Not only does he need to carry the Buffs to a higher ranking, but he also needs to take attention away from players already being considered as contenders. That is a tall task.

Can Shedeur Sanders get back in the Heisman Trophy race?

It is still early in the season so it is too soon to count anyone out of the Heisman race. Week 2 was a bad loss for the Buffaloes and a disappointing performance from Sanders. However, his performance against Nebraska will not anchor his stats for the entire season.

If Shedeur Sanders can start having more performances like he did in Week 1, he could still get back in the race.
